Sunday Fun: S/S 2013 Campaigns

It's the last day of winter, so spring campaigns are a natural topic. When I was a teenager, I was all about the glossy, heavily photoshopped campaigns. The glistening bodies at Versace, the stone-cold dames of Chanel. These days, I want to pack my things and move into the muffled, intentionally sloppy ads of the now. Often, they're shot by Jurgen Teller. Sometimes they portray an effortless reality of undone hair, muted colors and endless chic. Little meaningless details - a foot cuchion, a pink tub, prevail, and beauty is understated.

The essence of these campaings is awareness - of the power of hyper-sexual image, of the standart of glamour, and the neglect of those. Somewhat similar to how I often choose to be around fashion.

A dash of Yellow

Since I've stepped back onto promise land, and dipped into city life, I'm possessed by the urge to dress up and the most interesting thoughts come to mind. Before my journey abroad, I'd always look at those mixing and matching stylists with fatigue, true to simple silhouettes and comfortable looks. Why can't I be more like them, I'd think. I'll tell you why: I was lazy!

 photo IMG_3309_zpsebe17929.jpg

Well, suddenly, not anymore. Heading for this week's Victor&Rolf perfume launch for Israel, I actually felt like mixing and matching myself, and due to the flowery, summery theme of Flowerbomb, I opted for summer. And seeming effort. I don't know what happened to me.

Jacket, skirt and shoes - Zara
Sunglasses - Erroca

Everyone knows yellow is THE color of S/S 2013, so imagine my joy when I found this perfectly yellow jacket, the fruit of 2012 summer sales, in my closet. The shirt, of course, is a different story - I was able to take some an item or two of this great collaboration, and the sophisticated design clearly does its job. Last but not least - these sunnies! Trust me, you put on round sunglasses, and your look becomes 20% more fashionable. It's magic.  With or without the glasses, I'm curious to see whether my dress-up energy holds on further. Stay tuned!

Sunday Fun: Jeffrey and Chloe

A while ago, when it was raining and cold, I was fooling around with Jeffrey Campbell shoes, dressing them up with different clothes. Due to the fickle weather, I want to share my humble collage.

Today, entering the website to see what's in store for spring, I discovered JF recently added a post about Chloe Sevigny, the cropped blond and the all-favorite muse. What is she up to these days, you wonder?  This:

This, folks, is Chloe stylishly multiplying in the Opening Ceremony campaign for her own line. I love the pencil skirt and boots look, but am I sold for this dress-up games? I'm not sure. If you want to see Chloe act, however, you'll have to wait for the release of Lovelace, the 70s porm flick with Amanda Seyfried and James Franco as  Hugh Heffner! Classy.

The little white dress

Sometimes, all you need is a little white dress to accompany your free-spirited trips. I wore this Bershka dress so many times on my trip, and when I look back on it, white and simple is all I really needed sometimes.

There's not enough words to thank the US for my wonderful experience, so I guess for now I'll just say.... see you soon, sunny California valleys and waves. And I'll see YOU guys back in Israel.

Sunday Fun: Valentine's Day, Fashion, Thoughts

Yes, Valentine's Day is a commercial affair evolving around chocolate, roses and spas. It doesn't mean it's not a good time to talk about love and style. Lately, I've been giving it some thought.

Matching leather, shared love for grunge:
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish

It's love when…. You're on the same team

Some females are fortunate enough to have stylish boyfriends who care about stuff like loafers, trendy colors and accessories (you know who you are, girls). Others, not in the luck, give in, a.k.a smartly adapt to their sweetheart's way of throwing a casual something over a wrinkled something else. Some couples magically morph into each other's style-doubles with time. Whatever the circumstances are, there's often a sense of unity, an aura of conspiracy surrounding couples of true substance. If you look "together", after a certain point, you're probably meant to be.

 photo 4-5_zps2544782f.jpg
You like t-shirts, I like girlie dresses: Michele Williams and Jason Segel

But keep your individualities

On the other hand, matchy - matchy public appearances can deceive - what may look, at first glance, as perfect love may be just un-romantic perfectionism. So it's always nice to keep a little bit of personality, a clash of patterns, a misunderstanding of occasions. Refreshing and fashionable, a little bit of a difference says "we're in love, but we're not robots".

 photo 2-8_zpsbb5320f1.jpg
In stripes, in shorts, in love: Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson, Keira Knightley and fiance

It's love when…. You make each other feel young

I was never a fan of people who take themselves too seriously and in love as in life – if you two can wear teenage cuteness together, her in a sundress and him in shorts, or roll with timeless stripes, simply be simple together and feel fresh and natural as you go – it must be love.

 photo 6_zps0a0144f0.jpg
You look funny? He doesn't care: Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman

Or clumsy, or childish!

Even when you wear the weirdest vintage dress you've ever owned, your partner should, ideally, think you're great. Even if he decided to leave the house in a bathrobe, essentially it shouldn’t matter. So if you dress up like a blanket, a cowgirl, or a belly dancer, just to run errands, and he's casually holding your hand, it's obviously right.

 photo 7_zps43567a96.jpg
Monochrome heaven: Miley, Maggie, Gwinnie, Shakira and their guys

And, it's maybe love when…. You can take a good monochrome pic (advanced celebrity step)

Ah, the tricky couple picture. So many fail, so many never take a good one. If you two: a) do not have ideal bone structure, b) are not in a middle of a photogenic pregnancy, c) lack the ability to look British, or d) look like a brother and sister, caught in a weird moment, don't worry – after all, love is in the heart, not on the screen. A denim union will do. Happy Valentine's!

Screen Heroine: Greta Gerwig in Lola Versus

Let's just say I watch a lot of downloaded movies lately, and I'm currently in some kind of an indie vortex. I search for the artiest, least advertised, cutest movies and watch them in bulks. A lot of them tend to disappoint ("Save the Date"? Really?), but for every string of neurotic, ever whining characters, there's a little precious gem. Lola Versus, starring my new favorite Greta Gerwig, is such an indie-gem.  Luckily, it's also a style lesson, 5 of them actually.
  photo 1-9_zps0a0bc886.jpg
1. Denim goes a long way. Gerwig's Lola juggles different styles of denim, from girlie to casual to business-like. My favorite combo is a buttoned-down jeans dress with a navy blazer.

Mix with: An attractive, t-shirt clad boyfriend (the dreamy Joel Kinnaman) and you're ready to go.
 photo 2-8_zps0f8486a3.jpg

2. True friends match prints. Lola's best friend, hot and fast-talking Alice, brings out the best in her. They match girie dresses for a picnic party, and when they meet for lunch, Lola gets rid of her sweatshirt.

Mix with: A bright food cart and a some quality time together.

 photo 90513_gal_zps4ab40930.jpg

3. A stylish mom is valuable - Lola's mother owns a restaurant, which prevents her from preaching, moralizing or nagging, all the things moms do if you're single.

Mix with: You can never go wrong with stripes! Never.

 photo MoviesLA_FILMLolaVersus19px468_zps1282cd7c.jpg

4. The sexiest boyfriends live in the messiest places. Lola's boyfriend is an artist, but of course. His futon resides in the middle of a workshop, and this is apparently a big turn-on.

Mix with: Books, cool pajamas and lots of L-O-V-E.

 photo tumblr_lfhksc7SSZ1qgwez0o1_500_zpsebc70791.jpg

5. Stylish indie movies are made by attractive people. This is Daryl Waine, the director of Lola Versus, and his girlfriend Zoe Lister Jones, who co-wrote the screenplay and plays Alice. They both have great faces, cool attitude and sort of re hair. Sweet.

Mix with: A hint of irony ad self-awareness.

Denim on the beach

I watched a movie recently (a post coming soon!) and got inspired to talk about denim. This winter we've witnessed the rise of printed denim - stars, flowers, galaxies and whatnot, all of the above were embraced wildly by celebrities and civilians all over the globe. I doubt the lady who I bought this dress from, at a garage sale in Long Beach, knows anything about it. This is a different kind of printed denim - 90s inspired, naive and consciously out of the fashion discourse. And yet, I love it.

Also, I promised a second take on the best second-hand sweater I've ever bought, back in Chicago. This is one of those weird, too-much-to-handle finds everyone seems to adore, each for a different reason: some like the hoodie, some find the lapels charming, I personally think it's comfortable and kooky and sweet. It sure deserved a day on the beach!
