Taking Pictures With Blue Doors

As my focus keeps shifting between Cali and Israel I keep having flashbacks to my recent trip home, during which I showed my partner more of Israel than I've ever seen during my life there. North to south, seashore to lakeshore, we explored the little country I keep thinking of. In the north, on the streets of Acre and Kfar Kama, we encountered many blue doors.

The clothes I was wearing for this trip were thrifted and even homemade - the dress was made by a dressmaker with my pattern. Flip flops accompanied everything. I was relaxed and sun-kissed. Good times. As I'm working on the next big thing (coming up soon! stay tuned! etc) I keep thinking about that vacation-not-vacation. And the blue doors one looks so good next to.

Summer Regrets

Here's a little confession - the blog is soon to undergo some major changes. I've been talking about it for a while, but this time I mean - surprises await. I decided to post regrets, till then - regrets of summer, you know...
 photo 43_zpsa0f75ca1.jpg

1. Bodysuit, Etam, 2. Sunglasses, Erroca, 3. Bag, TOP 10, 4. Shoes, Golf, 5. Shorts,  American Eagle

1. Suit, Made by LilaMist. 2. Hat, TOP 10. 3. Bag, Mik an Mor, 4. Sandals, Clarks

1. Shirt, Golf. 2. Shorts, Detla. 3. Ring, Tous. 4. Bag, Laster. 5. Shoes, Nine West

Summer is the time of adventure and road trips. Summer is the time of new relationships, swimming pools and resolutions. And, of course, regrets. Don't have too many, though.

L.A Times

I owe you this one! Being forever in transit and trying this thing the call in Hebrew "living on the line", things get confusing at times. I currently have two closets - in Tel Aviv and in California (classified location!) and too many shoes to count. I better start making some sense in it all, as in - seasonal and location appropriate, but truth be told both my "homes" are very similar. You could dress like this anywhere:

Dress - Peter Pilotto for Target
Glasses - Ray-Ban

My friend Haley took these pictures when I visited L.A almost three months ago - I love how easy this look is, so Tel Avivian. I'm planning to wear this dress with flip-flops all summer long. This one definitely stays in Cali.

Stylish and blurry in Copenhagen

In vain I tried to explain my dad how to take my pictures. He insisted on making them blurry as hell and I kept freezing, but nevertheless - stylish points were scored on this short and sudden Copenhagen trip, if blending in and gaining respectful looks from local fashionistas is of any indication. And boy, they're fashionable here! And everyone in denim and black. Just like me!

Jeans - Topshop
Shirt - Pull&Bear men's department

I'm absolutely in love with this new look I geekshly "prepared" for what turned out to be the world's most stylish city. Boyfriend jeans, when done right - and Topshop people know how - are heaven to walk around in, and grey denim is the perfect backdrop for my new masculine shirt. The scarf helped with the icy wind on the bike. Nothing helped, however, to become as tall and sculptured-face-beautiful as the locals. Oh, well.

Spring Flowers

If the shopping center if full of squealing teenagers and everyone's buying household items they don't need, spring IS officially upon us by Israeli standards - it's Passover time, and all bets are off. I love spring for the obvious  reasons - the flowers, the sane weather (the rain is behind us, the scorching heat is yet to come), the festive atmosphere. I always do my annual vintage sale around this time of year - the weekend was dedicated to that. In between, I found time to be flowery and put-together for BeinIsrael.

 Dress - Vintage Ungaro
Shoes - Antelope
Photography by Liya Geldman for BeinIsrael

Wonderful Liya Geldman and I teamed up for this post - it was meant to promote my vintage sale (and you can read my thoughts here), but came out inspirational on any level - why can't I dress like this every day? :) I'm in love with this dress, naturally - it's a true gem, especially with manly leather accessories. And how about this backpack? I need a dozen of them. Happy Passover - new energies, great adventures, love and fashionable statements to us all.

AND!! The blog is going to a surprise location tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Queen of the Desert

Sometimes, to achieve true inspiration, you must change the scenery. And don't I know it - this year has been, so far, very rich in that aspect, but it never hurts to keep switching it up. I find great fashionable inspiration in new surroundings and stylish challenges (you're looking at a person who once spent a whole day researching what to wear to a rave - those were the days), and willing to "get out of character" for a little bit of play. Going to the desert, this was inevitable:

Dress - Antik Batik
Earrings - from Zimbabwe
Rings - Agas&Tamar, Koa by AltinPlace

Honestly, it all came together in a morning of hasty packing and throwing things together. The wooden   elements - the beautifully minimalist wooden ring with the rustic one, the earrings my friend Shira brought me from her journey in Africa, the luxurious dress that swept the sand. Being a highly impressionable person and a desert lover I wanted this "Out of Africa" look, minus the heartbreak. You'll be the judge.

*** A completely non-sponsored shout-out to tourist or pale Telavivians: Succah in the Desert is an amazing place to stay, like nothing else I've experienced in my path. Go there. Wear nothing, if you dare.

Daytime Wedding

I got invited to a cute daytime wedding in a public place - yes, above a theater, with curious civilians taking pictures and a bride in a mini.  I had this suit divided over two continents - the skirt in my Californian closet, the shirt - in my mom's closet in Israel. The wedding was a good chance to unite the two.

Suit - vintage
Shoes - Zara
Sunglasses - Erroca

There's something very exciting about a silky, matchy-matchy suit. A little bit first lady, a little preppy, but so luxurious - I made the skirt shorter, but the loose top is going to stay the same. A chunky golden necklace was my choice to "toughen things up" and the retro sunglasses, courtesy of Erroca Israel, added the California touch. Do yourself a favor and try a suit this summer - the put-together feeling is refreshing and, ironically, pretty adventurous. Discuss.

Retro Time

Fancy parties. I don't go for those mostly - give me a living room and some improvised speakers, and I'm good. But a website I write for, BeinIsrael, had one, and I went out of simple curiosity.

 photo 1947917_10152217835547092_1553364920_n_zps9bfb35b8.jpg

The dress code was "flowers" - I wore my vintage dress with flats and a snake skin bag. This armchair with the fluffy pillow worked into the retro look as I was photographed by a friend, Katya Shepelyavaya. I fall in and out of love with the vintage look, especially as my life takes interesting turns. Stay tuned.

It's Tel Aviv Fashion Week: Day 2

Life moved on, but I still want to show you what I wore for TVFW (a pretty cool abbreviation, if you ask me). The second day I featured two different looks, which entailed going home and changing. Dedication. That's all I have to say.

 photo IMG_5656_zpse9209e89.jpg

Jeans - Insight
Headpiece - H&M
Vintage shirt, bag and shoes

I got most of this pre-planned, pre-loved look at Captain's Helm, a really cool vintage store in Oceanside, an otherwise unremarkable (albeit cute) Californian town. My fashion critic and life partner surprised me with the bag, the rest - my own doing. two more words - wear those headbands. You'll get compliments.

 photo IMG_5670_zps257be9d3.jpg

Vintage dress and shoes
Bag - Banana Republic
Cuff - Ruby Star

And for the evening - this truly gorgeous dress I found and made much shorter. I love the golden trim and the "proper", closed cut. So Funky. And we're almost done.

It's Tel Aviv Fashion Week: Day 1

I know, I've been absent. Buy hey, given the fact I flew across the ocean to come home I deserve a break. I landed straight into the buzz of Tel Aviv Fashion Week, which is nothing like the NYFW. Nobody snobs me out here (they wouldn't dare!) and the general atmosphere is of lesser importance and more of a fashion celebration - this fashion week doesn't have a "season" to be ahead of, which can't put Israel on the international circuit, but the intentions are good and everyone is friendly and happy to dress up to the nines. This is what I wore for the opening night.

 photo IMG_5634_zps9259e726.jpg

Skirt - custom made
Shirt - Forever21
Jacket - H&M with a vintage fur trim

I love the idea of a cropped top and a maxi skirt, especially with such a fine print. A lot of guests mixed up "fashion-forward" and "festive" and showed up in beaded, sparkly and floor-length numbers (one had a train, like at the Oscars, no less) but I don't like to overdo it. s hey say, "a fuchsia lipstick completed her look". I wore more cool stuff yesterday and the day before, so stay tuned and follow my Instagram for maximum updates!

Surfer Hopes

I'm never going to be a surfer. When I was little, my Russian school had swimming lessons at the local pool, but putting my head under water seemed so absurd to me. These days I wear contact lenses, on top of everything, so water-in-your-eye sports is out. Beach-inspired colors and prints though? Yes please.

Skirt - Topshop
Shoes - J.Crew

IT's embarrassing how much I'm being asked about this top. Yes, it's from the Nicki Minaj collection, which - after reading this piece of fine journalism - I couldn't pass by. It's a damn fine collection, let me tell you, over-the-top prints and studs aplenty - and the top worked itself perfectly into our trip to L.A. Yes, this is a So-Cal beach. And yes, I know you want a piece of Nicki Minaj awesomeness right now. More L.A to come soon!

Sunday Brunch plus Heels

Recently, in a conversation with a friend, I found myself suggesting a "birthday brunch" for his birthday. He looked at me with heavy doubt. What can I say? I'd take brunch over any other meal, and I dress accordingly:

Jeans - Levis
Shoes - Gallery Lafeyette

Earlier this year (or was it last year? Time flies!) I wasn't sure about the Olsen twins' "affordable" line. Compared to Elizabeth&James, their designer brand, Olsenboye lacked sophistication and flair, but then I found this - hey, who needs flair when there's bling - on a grey sweatshirt, fashion editors' favorite staple? For some reason, I keep pairing my new pair of jeans with grey. And architectonic shoes, which look pretty great on damp, wintry ground.

Librarian chic

What's fashion if not surprising yourself - a.k.a finding yourself in some bizarre combinations that somehow work? This one, courtesy of being late and desperately wanting to try out my new leopard tights, is odd enough and yet delightful.

 photo DSCF3572_zpsbd26bac3.jpg

 photo DSCF3575b_zpsda64b59c.jpg
 photo DSCF3577_zps666833e6.jpg

These two items came from estate sales - sometimes I wonder if my polished, get-them-with-a-tag habits are suppressed right now by the joy of amazing, one-of-a-kind vintage finds. The skirt and the sweater looked so grandma-ish I had to spice things up with rebellious tights. And a librarian with a twist was born. Ironically, the beautiful mural in the background couldn't say it better.

Direction: Uniform

While everyone's busy with next winter's projections, I live in the present. And in the present, it seems like the big woolly sweater and the little flimsy skirt are best friends:

I love this array of looks - perfect for concealing the winter muffin top (everyone has one, don't tell me otherwise), perfect for showing off some leg (with little booties) and feminine without being flashy. Besides, this uniform will lead you straight into the ZARA SALE wormhole... And it's not such a bad place to be right now.

Casual Friday

As promised here, I'm determined to wear more pants. It's not like I have something against them - but, being the lazy person that I am, pants (or other separates) require a considerable amount of coordination, and I don't like to think too much about it. Dresses are simple. Pants are for those who don't have commitment-phobia. I wore this look on the weekend, however, given it was a cold day and I love this shirt:

 photo DSCF3558_zps293a4461.jpg
 photo DSCF3550_zps64ebf194.jpg
 photo DSCF3544_zps5d800874.jpg
 photo DSCF3557_zps2aae43a8.jpg

Jeans - H&M
Shirt - Men's from Analog
Shoes - Via Spiga

Yup, tribal pattern is still my thing. But more than the pants that led to it, I enjoyed wearing a completely buttoned shirt (I have a penchant for total buttoning, a penchant not easily achieved when you got breasts) and those atypical loafer-type shoes I just got on sale. The cousin of my favorite ballet flats, this shoe carries a foreign, yet exciting, androgynous spirit. Look where pants got me!
